Hendler moved to Los Angeles in 1955 and currently lives there. He obtained his M.A. degree at UCA in 1962. His paintings of the 1960s and 1970s were associated with the Photorealism movement of the time. By the 1980s his work synthesized idioms of Pop Art, Minimalism, and Conceptual Art practices.

Raymond Hendler (1923-1998) was a first generation, action painter, whose mature work began in post-war Paris, in 1949. There via the G.I. Bill, he immersed himself in the ferment of the West Bank, forming close friendships with the Canadian taschist painter, Jean Paul Riopelle, and the pre-eminent Australian sculptor, Robert Klippel.
