McKendree Robbins Long was a pastor, evangelist, hymnologist, poet, writer, and artist. Born July 20, 1888 into a prominent Statesville, North Carolina family, he was baptized and raised in his family's Presbyterian faith. Prior to attending Davidson College from 1906 to 1907, Long had a classical education that included his interest in art.
