Aug 15, 2011 · Michael, now 69, began his artistic career in his hometown, studying at Blackpool Art College until 1964. Despite its bright lights, the young artist looked further afield to develop his talents and he moved to Paris to study painting and printmaking for 18 months.

Hipkins was born at Coseley, in the West Midlands of England on 25 November 1894. He studied at the Bilston School of Art before serving as a soldier in Malta and France between 1915 and 1918.
