Born in New South Wales in 1938, Michael Johnson studied at the Julian Ashton School in Sydney. He exhibited in several group shows prior to his departure for England in 1965. While in England he taught at the Croydon Art School in London. He returned to Australia in 1967 and held his first one-man exhibition in Sydney the same year.
