Turner from an early age drew airplanes before turning his attention to cars primarily of the racing variety. Born in Harrow, Middlesex, in 1934 he got his start at the age of 14. While still in school his parents gave him a couple of drawing books by Frank Wootton, including How to Draw Cars and by 1955 he was contributing artwork to The Motor.
