Monoprint 2015: A Gathering of Artists promises to be an exciting event this year and hopes to build on the wonderful success from our previous events. Artists often use etched plates or some kind of pattern such as lace, leaves, fabric or even rubber gaskets, to add texture. In this case, having a repeated pattern, we have a monoprint. Monoprints and monotypes are created by manually adding (additive method) or removing (subtractive method) ink from a plate which is then printed using a printing press.

150 years later, William Blake (1757–1827) started experimenting with monotypes and became one of the most important artists to work with this media. He painted with oil and egg tempera onto a copperplate or piece of millboard from which he pulled prints by pressing the dampened paper against the paint.
