Moshe Castel was born in Jerusalem in 1909 to his father, Rabbi Yehuda Castel, and his mother, Rachel, daughter of Yosef Ancona. He quickly became one of the most famous israeli artists of the israeli art scene. The Castel family arrived in Israel from Castile in 1492.
