For thirty years, Nancy Camden traveled the country selling her fabric art at juried art fairs, finding NPR from a laminated state-by-state station guide as she drove. At age sixty, Nancy Camden transitioned from a visual artist of thirty years to audio storyteller through radio features and oral histories. She crawled like a baby down a digital learning curve. Falling and frustrated, she took her first wobbly steps. Eventually, she grew some teeth, toddled full speed ahead and spoke her first words.

Her work is the subject of an independent film, Vanishing Point, and she was named Virginia Artist of the Year by the WCA in 1994. She attended Randolph-Macon Woman's College from 1948 to 1950, received her BA from Old Dominion University in 1965 and her MFA in sculpture from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1967.

Mar 13, 2009 · Thanks to Barbara Sucherman for sending this link about former fiber artist and doll maker, author and journalist, Nancy Camden, who I last saw at her home in Jackson, MI, about two years ago just before she moved to Milwaukee. She said at the time she had done her last art fair. This is a link to a piece Nancy did for NPR on a local dog park.

Before freelancing with WMUK, Camden was a fabric artist for about 30 years. In 2007, she decided to move to Wisconsin to be with her boyfriend, but her home near Jackson never sold. Since then, Camden has been dividing her time between Wisconsin and Michigan. Now, seven years later, she finally sold her house in Michigan.
