NYSCA accepts grant applications from nonprofit organizations incorporated or registered to do business in New York State, Native American tribes in New York State, and units of government in municipalities in New York State. The NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellowship is a $7,000 unrestricted cash grant available to artists living in New York State and/or one of the Indian Nations located therein. This grant is awarded in fifteen different disciplines over a three-year period (five categories a year) and the application is free to complete.

Artists at any career stage are welcome to apply. It is important to note that each application by an individual artist must be sponsored by an eligible New York State nonprofit organization. Grants are awarded to the sponsoring organization. The sponsor then directs the funds to the individual artist.

The grants are meant to enable artists to produce major performance artworks in New York.
