LOCATION Glasgow, Scotland. The Voyage of the Solar Eye is an ambitious project that was conceived by Nick Evans, which proposes to build a small boat (5m long) that will undertake a strange cruise from the centre of Glasgow to Small Isles and Cuillins of Skye (The Plutonic Archipelago, or Islands of the Night). Nick Evans earned his BA in sculpture and environmental art from the Glasgow School of Art, and continues to live in Glasgow. He uses materials such as cast and assembled resin, poured aluminum, and hand-built ceramics, often painting over the final assemblage. Sculptures combine abstract and figurative elements, with references from Cubism and Abstract Expressionism to graffiti and Pop art.
