Runyon married Nora Young on September 16, 1901, in Ironton, Ohio, and they had one son. Nora Runyon died in Catlettsburg in December 1908. The following year Runyon and his son moved to Brownsville, where Runyon married Amelia Lenor Medrano, daughter of a prominent Matamoros family, on July 4, 1913; they had three daughters and two sons.
