Artist Statement 2006 I work with vintage, printed fabrics and found embroideries made by women of previous eras. I act as a collaborator, modernizing their traditional work and altering its original purpose. The fabric becomes the foundation for a fantastical, exotic dialogue between the old and the new.

Dec 15, 2014 · Orly Cogan has been an artist I have been interested in since I first saw her work at The Art Gallery of Calgary in 2009. It was my first year at ACAD and Diana Sherlock took our Humanities class to the Judy Chicago exhibition. There was a separate exhibition upstairs in the gallery and this included Orly Cogan’s textile based work.

I always find her work provocative and thought provoking. It speaks to women’s experience and doesn’t shy away from female strength and sexuality. I love Orly’s sense of humor and fun that that also shines through in her work. Her embroideries put a modern and current spin on a traditional outlet for women. Definitely one of my favorite artists.
