Patrick Hayman (1915-1988) was born in London and studied in Malvern. He spent his formative years living in New Zealand between 1936 and 1947, where he was closely involved with the foremost young artists of the time, centred around Colon McCahon, developing New Zealand's first indigenous modernism.
