Born on April 7, 1943 in North Attleboro, MA, the artist graduated from Salem Vocational Technical Institute’s scientific glassblowing program in Salem, NJ. Mostly working on high-grade manufactured glass works, it was not until his hobby paperweights were noticed by the art dealer Reese Palley at a craft expo in Atlantic City, NJ, that Stankard was discovered.
