Nov 02, 2006 · I found this amp locally and thought I'd give it a shot. It's a 1980 model Peavey Artist VT. It's got the 12" Black Widow speaker which sounds a lot like a JBL D120 (or E120) to me. The preamp is solid state and the power section has 4 6L6 tubes for about 100 watts of power. It's a monster of an amp. Some have called it a Boogie killer. I believe it.

Dec 19, 2014 · Well, nothing says southern rock better than those Peavey hybrid amps. I never saw a 1x12 Classic VT myself, the 2x12 weighs 64 pounds. The early Classic amps used transistors in the preamps, the CT and VTX versions shifted to integrated circuits. The preamps will sound the same as the solid state head preamps of the era, as they are the same.

Peavey has had an amp model called the "Classic" non-stop for nearly 40 years, and seriously, they are ALL sleeper amps that sound good on the cheap. My personal favorite would be the dual 6L6 powered tweed Classic 50... the 2x12 version is good, but the 4x10 version is just plain excellent.

Jul 07, 2013 · I have an Artist 115 VT that I picked up and resurrected a few months ago. It came with the original Sylvania 6L6's and 1501-4 15" Black Widow Speaker. This amp has quickly turned into my main gigging amp now. Great sound, very clean and powerful and extremely well built. Very nice amp.
