Here A4 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley is steaming into Goathland easily hauling five or six coaches. This locomotive was for many years an express performer on the east coast route between London and Edinburgh with an offshoot to Leeds. In 1958 as a senior aircraftsman Pete Lapish, air wireless mechanic, usual job servicing Vulcan bombers, I was stationed at Moreton for two weeks before demobilisation. I was being trained to be a fireman. (Don’t Ask) It would have been amazing then to be aware that by the 1990’s I would know this town and the Cotswolds quite well.
