Cassidy Possum (Stockman) Tjapaltjarri (1923 – 25 February 2006) was an Australian Aboriginal spokesman, tribal elder and well known visual artist. He was born at Napperby in the Northern Territory around 1923. It is unclear exactly when he started painting, however, he was a regular painter during his many years as a pensioner at Mount Allan.

An Anmatyerre speaker born at Mt Allan in 1967, Gabriella Possum Nungurrayi is the eldest daughter of Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri. Gabriella became a very accomplished artist while still in her teens, and absorbed the rich cultural stories of her families’ inheritance.

Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri was born on Napperby Station about 200 kilometres north-west of Mparntwe (Alice Springs). Like many other Anmatyerr people, his family moved to the east region of their country following the Coniston Massacre of the mid-1920s. Tjapaltjarri’s mother also raised Billy Stockman Tjapaltjarri, whose own mother was a victim of the massacre.
