Rachel Lichtenstein was born in 1969 in Essex. Her grandparents were immigrants from Poland who settled in London’s East End, before moving to Southend around the time of the Second World War. Lichtenstein studied sculpture at art college, subsequently working as an unpaid artist-in-residence at 19 Princelet Street, a Huguenot building-turned synagogue.
