The Aboriginal Memorial was made by twenty men who live in or around Ramingining, a remote community close to the coast in Central Arnhem Land, part of the Northern Territory of Australia (fig. 2). Djon Mundine, an Aboriginal man who, from 1980 to 1994, worked as arts adviser at Ramingining, has recorded aspects of its conception.
