A student of architecture and ceramics from the University of Southern California, RAY MEEKER founded Golden Bridge Pottery in Puducherry with Deborah Smith forty-seven years ago. Ray’s prolific work ranges from “tea bowls to houses” to kiln building and monumental sculpture; Kyoto Protocol, Hegemony, Ozymandias and Passage being but a few examples.

He teamed up with Deborah Smith, to co-found Golden Bridge Pottery, becoming the first producers of hand thrown glazed stoneware in South India. The Golden Bridge Pottery situated in Pondicherry on the southeast coast of India was founded in 1971 by Deborah Smith and Ray Meeker. The studio produces a flexible line of wood fired, glazed, stoneware pottery. Deborah took charge of the pottery production in 1985 when Ray began a series of experiments in “fired building” technology.
