RAYMOND HILL. American, 1891–1980. BIOGRAPHY Raymond Hill was born in Uxbridge, Massachusetts. He was a pupil at the Rhode Island School of Design, Providence and the California School of Fine Arts, San Francisco and studied with Dante Sicci in Rome, Italy. From 1927 to 1961, Hill was a professor in the art department at the University of Washington in Seattle.

He was influenced strongly in his early years by Jimmy Liggins and Joe Liggins. A friend and musical associate of then-drummer Billy Gayles, Hill joined up with Ike Turner with whom he first worked in the late 40s.
