As Helen became well known for her commissioned portraits and meticulous still-lives, Reginald concentrated on atmospheric serigraphs and watercolours of Newfoundland, and the occasional site-specific painting, such as the Atlantic Place mural and an altarpiece for St. Patrick's Church, which is included in the exhibition.

Nonetheless, Parsons Shepherd graduated from the Ontario College of Art (the first Newfoundlander to do so) in 1948. The following year, she and her new husband, Reginald Shepherd, returned to Newfoundland and opened the Newfoundland Academy of Art, the first art school in the province, at 51 Cochrane Street, St. John's.
