Artist (Painter) Reinis Zusters OAM was born in Odessa, Ukraine, on 15 October 1918; arrived in Australia in 1950 and died in Wentworth Falls, NSW, 8 October 1999. A prolific artist in oils, whose work is widely represented in Australia and overseas. He produced many large landscapes, including triptychs of the Blue Mountains.

Reinis Zusters studied art briefly in Germany before arriving in Australia as a Latvian refugee in 1950. The following year, he held his first solo show, in Canberra, where he was employed with the Department of Works and went on to exhibit with the Art Society.

Zusters was born in the Ukraine, attending the Riga Technical College, Latvia (1935-40), and emigrated with his family to Australia in 1950, studying at the National Art School in Sydney (1950-52). He was employed as a draftsman with the Department of Works and Housing in Canberra, resigning in 1968 to work professionally as an artist.
