In 1418, Jacopo is born to Caterina Casazza and Antonio di Poggibonsi. Antonio is a silversmith, and Caterina is the daughter of a farmer from just outside the neighboring village of Staggia . Tragically, Jacopo's mother dies during childbirth, leaving Antonio with their only child.
