Well, the RIAA (obviously) represents the recording industry (what does the acronym stand for?). Quote from their "Who we are" page: "Our members are the record companies that comprise the most vibrant national music industry in the world." I guess that shold answer your question - the RIAA represents the companies, not the artists.
