Richard Ernst Eurich, OBE, RA (14 March 1903 – 6 June 1992) was an English painter who worked as a war artist to the Admiralty in the Second World War and was also known for his panoramic seascapes and narrative paintings. Content description. Eurich was contacted by the WAAC in March 1940 and was subsequently commissioned to make two pictures for £50, of Admiralty subjects to be suggested by Gleadowe. The subject of fishing fleets was proposed, and Eurich went to Whitby (LD 148, 208). He commented that it was "difficult to suggest anything different in their activities to those of peacetime" (16).

Richard Eurich worked for the War Artists Advisory Committee for a number of years during the Second World War. In November 1940 he was commissioned by the Committee to undertake a picture of the recent air raid over Portland. Eurich's love for the sea and his often unusual choice of perspective combine admirably in the resulting painting.
