He is the current Archivist for the Royal Society of Marine Artists. Robert's first book, entitled 'Painting Boats & Coastal Scenery' was published by Crowood Press in August 2009, 'Painting in Pastel's in September 2010 and 'Painting Landscapes in Oils' published in February 2012.

After high school graduation, he studied fine arts at Ohio Wesleyan University for a year and a half before he returned to New York. There he studied illustration at and graduated from Pratt Institute. This was followed by postgraduate study of portrait painting at Pratt and at The Art Students League in New York.
