Dr. Rob Butler is an ornithologist, author, and artist. He holds a graduate degree from Simon Fraser University (MSc) and the University of British Columbia (PhD). He spent 40 years mostly with the Canadian Wildlife Service as a biologist and then a scientist researching birds.

African American artist Robert Butler was born in Baxley, Georgia in 1943. In 1947, he moved with his mother to Okeechobee, Florida. His mother worked three jobs, but they were still quite poor, so most of his time was spent exploring his environment. During this time painter Robert Butler became inspired by the Everglades and Lake Okeechobee, where he'd hunt and fish throughout his childhood.
