Robert Coghill was born on December 5th, 1934 in Eugene, Oregon to Charles and Emma. After receiving his masters degree, he worked as an artist in abstract arts. He was married to Judy, and together they lived in Toldeo, Oregon. On June 4th, 2017 Robert passed away at the age of 82.

A renowned Northwest artist, Coghill studied under classically trained painters at Portland’s Museum Art School, now known at the Pacific Northwest College of Art. He would later go on to be an instructor at the college from 1962 to 1966 and was honored with a major show at the museum in 1975.

Robert D. Coghill was one of those authors—and the same supervisor who would later dismiss Mary Hunt’s contributions. This 1948 painting by Douglas Gorsline depicts “Moldy Mary” finding the infamous cantaloupe in a Peoria market. It appeared in Life magazine and can be seen today on the side of the CT Gabbert building in Peoria.
