Robert Jobling (1841 - 1923). Marine, landscape and figure painter in oil and watercolour. Born in Newcastle, the son of glassmaker employed in the glassworks of Sir Matthew White Ridley & Co. His first job was alongside his father where he remained until the age of 16. He then went on to become a ship painter, attending the art classes of the Government School of Design in his spare time.

Robert Jobling was born in Newcastle. He worked at his fathers glass works until he was sixteen whilst studying at the Newcastle School of Art at the same time. He painted marine and landscape subjects. He was the president of the Bewick Club in Newcastle.
