Numerous artist in the schools residencies EARLY WORK Asay graduated with an MA from UC Berkeley and began his artistic career focused on hard-edge stripe paintings, but quickly moved on to his greater passion of working with 3-dimensional form creating a multitude of work between 1975 and 1984 while living in New Mexico, Colorado and Arizona.

Roger Asay was teaching art at the University of New Mexico when he and Davis met in 1973. At that time he had just completed a transition from painting stripe configurations on geometric, shaped canvases to creating primitivist sculptures made out of bones. Asay was born in Denver, Colorado in 1941, but grew up in Bethesda, Maryland.
