Saddleworth Group of Artists has an elected membership of 47 artists. Exhibitions are held twice a year at Saddleworth Museum Art Gallery, one in summer and one over the Christmas period. Occasional shows are staged at other venues including the Millgate Centre in Delph. This year, 2020, the group is celebrating its 70th anniversary.

The Saddleworth Group of Artists was founded in 1950 by the watercolour painter, Ellis Shaw, and some friends who wanted to promote the study of fine arts and hold meetings and exhibitions. Originally based in the top floor of a house in Spring Street, Uppermill, they held talks and exhibitions. L.S. Lowry, a frequent visitor, had work in the group's Saddleworth Festival show in 1957.
