I am a classical realist painter and work full time from my studio which is located in Mt Kuring-Gai, Sydney. Much of my work in recent years has been portraiture but I also enjoy painting still life and interiors.

Inspired by the work of the Flemish masters (such as Vermeer, Rembrandt and Dou), her style is best described as contemporary realism. Before portraiture became her primary focus, Sally had worked for a number of years in both the graphic and ceramic arts.

Sally Ryan began her art education with a Certificate in Graphic Design, completed in 1981, followed by a Diploma of Education. Sally worked as a teacher before marrying and starting a family. Sally spent several years from 1998 – 2005 creating ceramic works inspired by time spent in Italy.
