Sandarbh was a context for artists to meet and initiate creative processes in alternative spaces. It was a unique residency initiated by artist Chintan Upadhyay, with his cousins Lochan and Yatin Upadhyay, in their home town of Partapur, in the Banswara district in Rajasthan.

The Sandarbh residency originates in India (which I participated later, in 2009), where a group of international artists are placed in a rural environment to make and exhibit work, ideally involving local communities. The work I made was in response to the unfortunate legacy of slavery and to historical and present day racial tension not only in the deep south, but also in the north.
