The Artist. For Davy Brown there has never been any doubt about the path his life would take: to paint and to share his skill with others. Davy was born in Kilmarnock in 1950 and studied at Glasgow School of Art from 1968 – 1972. The following year he qualified as an Art Teacher from Moray House in Edinburgh before winning a scholarship to travel and teach art in America, Canada and Iceland.

Davy Brown was born in Kilmarnock in 1950. As a young Scottish artist Davy studied contemporary art at the Glasgow School of Art under David Donaldson and Duncan Shanks. He then went onto complete teacher training at Moray House Edinburgh. In 1975 Davy Brown won a modern art scholarship from the Institute of Cultural Affairs in Chicago.

Brown studied at Glasgow School of Art 1963-8, where he subsequently taught. He worked as the Director of Arts at many Scottish schools, latterly at the Edinburgh Academy. He now paints full-time and is a long-standing exhibitor at RSW, RSA and RGI, winning many awards including the Charles Rennie Mackintosh Association Residency, which formed the basis of his 2011 exhibition.
