He was frequently cited as their leader and had long-term relationships with influential private galleries.

Peploe was born at 39 Manor Place, Edinburgh on 27 January 1871, the son of Robert Luff Peploe, Secretary of the Commercial Bank Edinburgh, and his second wife Anne Watson. After the death of his father, Peploe’s guardians tried to persuade him to pursue a career in the army; the idea did not appeal and so he instead entered a law firm.

Jul 10, 2020 · LONG revered as a masterpiece of Scottish art but unseen in public for almost 50 years, Samuel John Peploe’s Still Life with Tulips and Fan is to go under the hammer at Sotheby’s auction house in London later this month.
