Sheila Fell, artist (1931 – 1979) Sheila Fell was a Cumbrian artist who grew up in Aspatria, Cumberland, and lived and worked in London. A contemporary of Frank Auerbach, Leon Kossoff and others, she graduated from Saint Martin's School of Art and painted strong and atmospheric images of her native countryside.

Sheila Fell (20 July 1931 – 15 December 1979) was an English artist. She was born at Aspatria, Cumberland in 1931 and although she lived in London for the greater part of her life, she devoted her career to painting and drawing places close to her place of birth.

Born in 1931, Sheila Fell grew up in Aspatria, a typical West Cumbrian mining village. Whilst gaining a place at the Carlisle College of Art at 17, within two years she had obtained a place at St. Martin’s School of Art, London. Here, she befriended Frank Auerbach, amongst other contemporaries, and went on to teach at the Chelsea School of Art.
