Goodman is a painter of landscapes and figures, and his early work had a strong metaphysical quality. From the mid 1960 s until the late 1970 s he was particularly concerned with what he calls ” ‘ the violated landscape’—inanimate structures (water tanks, gas tanks, dumpsters, stadiums, incinerators, out of scale buildings) that threaten the harmony of nature.”Born: Jan 19, 1936

Feb 24, 2016 · Sidney Goodman (1936-2013) was among the most important American figurative painters of the post-World War II era. This exhibition was the first major presentation of Goodman’s works on paper, and consisted of 63 large and small scale works. A Philadelphia native, Goodman attended the Philadelphia College of Art (now University of the Arts) from 1954 to 1958.
