Simon Jacques Rochard. (1788-1872), Miniature painter. Artist associated with 11 portraits. Parisian-born Rochard studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts where he was taught miniature painting by J.B.J. Augustin. He moved to Brussels where he was commissioned to produce a miniature of the Duke of Wellington for the King of Spain shortly before the battle of Waterloo.

Nov 27, 2013 · On the eve of the Battle of Waterloo, Rochard went to the Anglo-allied headquarters and painted the Duke. In fifty minutes, he painted three watercolour sketches of different poses which he later worked up into portraits for which he charged Wellington 120 francs each.
