Sir Benjamin Keene (1697–1757), British diplomat, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1745. In 1723 he was appointed an officer of the South Sea Company; established to hold commercial rights awarded to Britain in the 1713 Treaty of Utrecht, including their right to import and sell enslaved African people in the Spanish colonies.

KEENE, Sir BENJAMIN (1697–1757), diplomatist, born at King's Lynn, Norfolk, in 1697, was eldest son of Charles Keene, merchant (alderman, and in 1714 mayor, of King's Lynn), who married Susan Rolfe.
