Royal Society of British Artists. The Society was founded in 1823 by a small group of artists who were dissatisfied with the Royal Academy and its schools. The Society’s first gallery was designed and built by John Nash in Suffolk Street, London. By 1847 it had been incorporated by Royal Charter and in 1887, the year of Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee, it was granted its Royal Charter.
