Apr 15, 2002 · Chaim Soutine was born in Lithuania in 1893. He turned to art despite the opposition of his orthodox Jewish family, and moved to Paris to study art when he was 20. He spent time in Ceret, the town in the French Pyrenees where the Cubists had lived before World War II, and also in Cagnes, but eventually moved back to Paris, where he died in 1943.5/5(2)
