The Family of Artists. Joseph Stannard (13 Sep 1797 - 7 Dec 1830) English marine and landscape painter, and etcher, a prominent member of the Norwich School of artists (1803-1833), which also included John Crome and John Sell Cotman. Stannard was born in Norwich, England, and became, for a short time, a pupil of Robert Ladbrooke, (brother-in-law to Crome).

Stannard was born in the village of Flitwick, near Bedford, in 1870. His father was Henry Stannard Senior, who was also a well-known sporting painter.
