STEVE APPLETON was born and raised in rural Michigan, and lives and works in Mt. Washington and South Central Los Angeles. He has been a resident of Los Angeles since age 13, and received his Master of Fine Arts from USC. His primary focus is in creating site specific artwork that attempts to uncover the history and physical form of the place.

Born in Surrey in 1989, Appleton developed a passion for music at a young age, and at 15 he began performing piano jazz cover versions of Billy Joel and Elton John songs at a Soho French restaurant. Inspired by artists as diverse as Jamiroquai, Nas, and Stevie Ray Vaughan, he started to pen his own material, and after being spotted by manager John Black he signed a record deal with RCA in 2007.

Steve Appleton is currently an assistant professor of Art in the Sculpture/New Genre Program of Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles. In addition to Appleton’s Face Finder/ Face Time, a large-scale interactive digital projection project at the plaza of Sunset and Vine, the artist has also completed a major site-specific architecturally integrated artwork for the Metro Green Line Harbor Station.
