Artist, author, and visionary Steve Wheeler was born Stephen Brosnatch in Slovakia and emigrated with his family to New Salem, Pennsylvania, when he was a young boy. Leaving school at sixteen to work in the coalmines with his father, Wheeler continued to read and study voraciously. His readings on art were a particular passion, and he soon determined to leave the mines to become an artist.
