A collection of 50 small Sumi artworks from 22 members of Puget Sound Sumi Artists fills the walls at the Fifth Avenue Loft Gallery. “There’s a good cross section of traditional sumi-e and contemporary mark-making in the show, which more and more of our members are trying,” says artist, teacher, calligrapher Sally Penley, proprietor of the gallery.

Ellen is a past President of the Olympia Art League, served as Chairperson of the 2006 and 2007 Capitol City Visual Arts Exhibit and was Secretary for the Puget Sound Sumi Artists from 2005 to 2007. She is active in promoting the arts and sharing her artistic ability in her community.
Puget Sound Sumi Artists is a non-profit organization that was initiated by several artists to study not only ink painting (sumi-e) but also calligraphy (shodo) and flower arranging (ikebana).
