Sylvia Pankhurst. (1882-1960), Political activist, writer and artist; daughter of Emmeline Pankhurst. Sitter in 19 portraits. Artist of 3 portraits. Pankhurst was one of the leading figures in the campaign to establish votes for women. The daughter of the suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst and of the legal reformer Dr Richard Pankhurst, she turned to a career in human rights after studying to be an artist.

She trained at Manchester School of Art, winning the prize for best female student in 1901, going on to win a scholarship to the Royal College of Art, London.
