Clay reported a population of 150 in 1925. In 1945 the community had a population estimated at 100 and four accredited businesses. The post office was discontinued during the 1960s, and by 1970 the town had declined to an estimated population of sixty-one and two businesses. In 1990 and 2000 Clay still had an estimated population of sixty-one.
GACA formed in May of 2003 from a group of Central Texas Clay Artists whose common interest is their membership in TCAA. (Texas Clay Arts Association) Prior to becoming GACA, the group had been meeting informally once a month for about a year. The regular meeting place is St Edward’s Univ. clay lab, courtesy of Ceramics Prof. Stan Irvin.

The purpose of the Texas Sporting Clays Association (TSCA) is the governance, encouragement, and promotion of organized sporting clays shooting among residents of the State of Texas. TSCA is comprised of approximately fifty (50) member clubs and over 4900 National Sporting Clays Association (NSCA) registered shooters.
