Heinz Holliger was born in 1939 in Langenthal in Switzerland. As well as oboe, he studied piano and composition (with Boulez) although he is unfortunately not represented in this set as a composer. Also absent are any of the major compositions he has inspired from others which utilise his ability to make use of “extended techniques” on the oboe.
