The next major body of work to come out of Arnhem Land was a result of the combined efforts of artists from the communities of Ayangkulyumuda (Groote Eylandt), Yirrkala, Milingimbi and Kunbarlanja for the 1948 American-Australian Scientific Expedition to Arnhem Land (AASEAL) led by Charles Pearcy Mountford (1890–1976).
